Homework
Homework is a formative assessment. Your child will receive feedback from me, but not be graded. Homework feedback helps guide my instruction and will help your child develop the understanding they need to do well on projects and tests. It is an important means of communication, and I appreciate your support with homework.
Reading is the most important homework I will give. At least twenty minutes of reading a day, five days a week is the expectation. Reading chapter books, graphic novels, magazines, informational books, etc. with a family member or alone in a quiet space is key. Occasionally your child will bring home a math assignment in their homework folder. Learners will also create flashcards for their spelling, which will come home in a baggie. They are responsible for learning the spellings and definitions for each word.
Classwork Grading Scale
4/Secure: Consistently applies the skill or concept accurately and independently.
3/Progressing: Shows steady growth with minimal support.
2/Emerging: Shows limited growth with considerable support
1/Area of Concern: Exhibits little understanding of the concept or skill with considerable support
