Welcome Fourth Grader and Family!
I am excited to start another great school year! This is my twenty-first year teaching in Brighton. I hope you are having a wonderful summer and I can hardly wait to hear all of the details. This summer, my husband and I traveled to see family we hadn’t seen in nearly two years. We also went to Traverse City, which is one of our favorite places. Cooking, reading, doing puzzles, going on long walks, and observing wildlife is how I like to have fun. I can hardly wait to hear what you have been up to this summer.
Here are some of the things we will be learning this year. In science we will study energy, plants and animals, and the planet Earth. For social studies, we will learn about the geography, economy, and history of the different regions of the United States, along with our nation’s government. In math we will learn how to do large multiplication and division problems, as well as fractions, place value, and geometry. During writing workshop you will keep a writer’s notebook and you will write narrative and opinion pieces, along with research projects. Of course we will do a lot during reading workshop, including book partnerships, independent reading, read aloud, and poetry. Our classroom library is full of wonderful authors, genres, and series.
My job is to help you become independent and enthusiastic learners in a safe environment. We will spend the first week getting to know each other and learning new school and classroom routines. I am sure you have many questions and I promise we will discuss them during the first few days of school.
I will have journals, folders, erasers, and paper for the class. If you could donate the following materials it would be very much appreciated. Space is very limited, so please do not send in extra supplies with your child. Thank you for supplying your child with the following items:
I’m looking forward to meeting you!
